Still Life & The Allure of Nature
February 29 through March 15, 2008
(Charleston, SC) – On February 29th, 2008, Helena Fox Fine Art at 12 Queen Street in historic Charleston presents an exhibition of paintings by nationally renowned artist Kenn Backhaus and Becky Parrish titled, Still Life & The Allure of Nature. This exhibition showcases paintings that exemplify the unity between mans arrangement of natures gifts and natures own arrangements. Two distinctly different artists present their varied artistic achievements in Still Life and paintings of Nature.

Raised exploring the woods and lakes of Wisconsin, Kenn Backhaus has spent his artistic career depicting the beauty, truth and serenity of nature. Like the famous Scandinavian artists of the 19 Century, Kenn evokes our senses with his innate understanding and passion for nature’s moods, her delicate nuances of light and her fragility.

Kenn Backhaus was born in Beaver Dam Wisconsin. He was raised in a farming family that understood the importance of the arts. His family nourished and embraced their son’s passion for artistic expression. Kenn graduated from The Layton School of art in 1973 and spent ten years developing a successful career in Design and Illustration that garnered many national awards. Yet, his passion laid elsewhere. In 1984, he followed his souls yearning for the out doors and the paintbrush. Since that time, Kenn has become nationally recognized for his paintings and is currently featured in the PBS TV series, Plein Air, Painting the American Landscape.

Becky Parrish‘s Still Life’s are calculated and choreographed compositions of lyrical and colorous harmonies. She dedicated her artistic career to studying and capturing natures subtle nuances.

Becky burst onto the Washington DC. art scene in 1996 after receiving an MFA from George Washington University. Her timeless Still Life’s were recognized for their gentle color harmonies ad dynamic compositions. She quickly became the darling of the Virginia art world.
