Plein Air Painting the American Landscape
PBS PLUS seriesPlein Air, Painting the American Landscape is a timely program of personal discovery giving public television viewers an educational and engaging look at painting "en plein air"— landscape painting on location. Audiences will become acquainted with the historical and cultural events that have shaped American Impressionism and the Plein Air School of painting as they gain an understanding and appreciation of contemporary American landscape artists and their role as interpreters and chroniclers of our rich and varied natural settings.
Available to 346 member stations nationwide, this PBS PLUS series takes viewers to diverse, historical and colorful destinations around the nation to learn the techniques and secrets of America’s great plein air artists. The beautiful and entertaining new series examines the role that traditional artist plays in our increasing technological society, and how their art helps to define our relationship to the land.
Plein Air will educate and elevate viewers of all ages as they rediscover the beautiful and varied American landscape as seen through the eyes of the plein air painter and better understand our need to further protect our nation’s environments.
